The DHC-6 Twin Otter was developed by De Havilland Canada in 1965. Designed as a rugged STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) commuter aircraft, the Twin Otter carried passengers and cargo into harsh environments, such as the freezing Antarctic and areas like the North African Desert. Production ceased in 1988 after 844 aircraft were manufactured. Viking Air Limited acquired the rights to all De Havilland aircraft - no longer in production - in 2005 and two years later announced the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter production program. By mid-2015, they had delivered 75 new aircraft and established the Twin Otter as a successful commercial aircraft - while nearly 500 of the original aircraft remained in service.

The E-flite® Twin Otter 1.2m is a scale replica that is the perfect first twin-engine model for intermediate to experienced RC pilots. It is versatile, easy to fly and equipped with functional features such as LED navigation and landing lights, flaps and optional floats.

The added value of the model is further greatly enhanced by the two landing gear options included in the package. The E-flite Twin Otter features molded-on sheet metal butts, corrugated rudder surfaces, and a true-to-the-original color scheme. The model also has numerous features, including working flaps, LED navigation and landing lights, and black propellers with white stripes that look perfect both in motion and static. The Twin Otter 1.2m offers a unique flying experience.

1) Dual Power:
The factory-installed drive systems are equipped with high-power brushless external rotors that have counter-rotating three-blade propellers. The controllers are wired to run on a single 3S 2200-3200mAh battery for superior performance and long flight times of up to 10+ minutes.

2) Multiple landing gear options:
Equipped with a tripod landing gear with steerable nose wheel, the Twin Otter offers excellent handling on the ground and can be flown from asphalt, grass or sand runways. You can also fly on the water with the included float kit - The floats match the color scheme and feature a water rudder for excellent control. Both landing gear options are easy to install and can be swapped out in minutes.

3) Functional Features:
Realistic looking LED landing and navigation lights are factory installed and powered by the flight battery. The landing flaps provide improved low-speed flight characteristics and allow takeoff and landing on shorter distances and at lower speeds.

4) Durable Construction:
Molded EPO material construction allows complex details and shapes to be replicated in a lightweight yet durable form. The result is an excellent scale appearance that is easy to maintain and provides the best possible flying experience.

5) Bind-N-Fly® Benefits:
Do you already own a Spektrum™ transmitter? BNF aircraft make it possible to get in the air faster than ever before. They come with the drive system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4 GHz receiver installed. So all you have to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, complete the final assembly and you're ready to fly!

This Bind-N-Fly Basic model is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver with AS3X® (Artificial Stabilization - 3-aXis) technology, which compensates for the effects of wind and turbulence behind the scenes, providing a feeling of stability and precision as if you were flying a much larger, perfectly tuned aircraft. If this is your first model of this type, or you need additional safety margin to familiarize yourself with the aircraft, you can activate the optional SAFE® Select attitude stabilization built into the receiver. No programming is required. Simply change the binding procedure as indicated in the manual.

When SAFE Select is enabled, you will receive: 

1) Transverse and Longitudinal Axis Constraint:
This mode restricts movement about the lateral and longitudinal axes and prevents the model from turning on its back. It also prevents the model from climbing or descending too steeply

2) Automatic leveling:
The model automatically returns to a normal level flight attitude when the sticks are released. This feature is also helpful during takeoff and landing to keep the wings level.

3) Easy switch assignment - no programming required:
The process to assign a switch on the transmitter to the SAFE Select feature is very simple, requires no programming and is done in a few seconds. If you do not want to enable SAFE Select features, then simply bind the receiver normally and it will function as a normal AS3X receiver.
